Abstract

The project “Ecosystem Restoration for Enhancing Livelihoods and Addressing Climate Change: China-Kenya Cooperation on Bamboo Technology Transfer” has produced several knowledge products. As part of its capacity building component, three manuals have been produced as resources during training events for the project beneficiaries in Kenya.

Propagation Manual for Tropical Clumping Bamboos

This manual describes seven methods of propagating tropical bamboo species (or called as clumping bamboo or sympodial bamboo) with practical information and pictures illustrating steps of the whole process.

Tropical Bamboo Agroforestry Management in Kenya and Africa

This manual provides basic information about the development of bamboo resources through agroforestry systems in Kenya. The manual seeks to increase public awareness of how this important natural resource can be integrated easily and successfully with food crops. Practical guidelines for cultivating and sustainably managing bamboo species are offered herein to help farmers derive maximum outputs in terms of food crops, while managing bamboo stands for their intended objectives.

Introduction to Edible Bamboo Shoot Processing

This manual presents various methods and techniques in preserving and processing bamboo shoot for food. It also offers details of selected techniques and overall suggestions.
