EbA South Interregional Writing Workshop

The GEF-funded projectEcosystem-based Adaptation through South-South Cooperation (EbA South)is organizing anInterregional Writing Workshop, with the aim to review global and regional strategies and funding opportunities for EbA in developing countries. The workshop will provide an introduction to funding opportunities for EbA through funding programmes such as theGreen Climate Fund (GCF)and theGlobal Environment Facility (GEF), as well as in-depth training on the concepts for bringing about a transformative change, overcoming barriers, stakeholder consultations and theory of change. The expected output are concept notes for the continuation and upscaling of EbA implementation piloted by the EbA South project in Mauritania, Nepal and Seychelles. The workshop will be led by the projectChief Technical Advisor, Dr. Anthony Mills. It will bring together the project core team: Project Management Unit (PMU) and other technical experts fromUNEP-IEMP, Technical Advisor team, Task Manager and representation of the country teams (National Focal Points and National Restoration Experts or other selected representatives).

TheAdvanced Training Workshop on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) in Arid Areaswill be held from 10 to 21 October 2016 in Beijing. The Workshop is co-organized by UNEP-IEMP and the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN). The main objective is to implement the capacity building initiatives announced by China’s President Xi Jinping during COP 21 in Paris last year. It aims to enhance participants’understanding of how scientific approaches and management strategies can help developing countries adapt to ecosystem changes in the context of climate change. The Workshop is sponsored by the Climate Change Department, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China. It is open to an international group of public officials, researchers and practitioners, who embark on, or are already involved in ecosystem monitoring and management, ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) in arid areas.
