Brief Introductoin

Dr. Linxiu Zhang, Director of UN Environment Programme-International Ecosystem Management Partnership (UNEP-IEMP), a UNEP senior staff. She is a fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). She holds concurrently as the senior research fellow of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of CAS, and the adjunct professor at Colleges of Economics and Management of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). Before joining the UN, she served as the Director/Deputy Director of Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CCAP, CAS). 

Experience

Dr. Zhang has rich experiences in working with international organizations, such as serving as a board member of various CGAIR centers including Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), International Agroforestry Center (ICRAF), World Fish Center (ICLARM). She was also an independent board member of the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), and member of several task forces under the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED). She served as review panel members and most recent one was as an institutional review panel member of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in 2017. She also had close collaborations with the World Bank and other UN agencies, such as FAO, UNDP, IFAD and WFP, and etc.

Research

Dr. Zhang has abundant professional experiences on policy relevant studies on poverty alleviation, regional inequality, sustainable rural development, labor market development, public investments, the economics of rural education and healthcare, integrated resource management, and climate change adaptation. She has conducted many empirical researches on these areas and is one of the initiators of impact evaluation research in China.  

Dr. Zhang has published widely in both national and international referred journals and received numerous awards. The most recent ones include “Ten Most Outstanding Women in Science” award from CAS (2013), TWAS “Celso-Furtado Prize” in Social Sciences (2013), “Fudan Management Excellence Award” (2014).

Education

Dr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading, England, an M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the University of the Philippines at Los Banos, Philippines, and a B.S. in Agricultural Economics and Management from the Nanjing Agricultural University, China.
