He is a research fellow of Institute of Geographical Sciences and resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, secretary general and director of comprehensive center of Scientific Committee of China Ecosystem Research Network (CERN), member of policy committee of national long term ecological research network (ILTER) and China liaison of Ecosystem Management Committee of IUCN. He has been engaged in ecosystem monitoring, research and assessment for a long time and has rich experience in international cooperation.

He has been involved in relevant work since the establishment of UNEP-IEMP.
