Dr. Shaohong Wu is a research fellow of Institute of Geographical Sciences and resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, majoring in physical geography. His main research directions are: impacts and adaptation of climate change, natural disaster risk, land surface pattern and process. He participated in the preparation of the report of working group II and technical report "climate change and water" of the fourth assessment report of the international intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC), and the special report "managing extreme events and disaster risks to promote climate change adaptation" of the fifth assessment report of the IPCC; He was one of the leading authors of Volume II of the first to fourth national assessment reports on climate change.

He was nominated by the Institute of geographical resources as the Chinese director of UNEP-IEMP.
