Weidong Liu is a professor in economic geography at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). His current appointments include Director General of the Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS, Counselor of the State Council, and Executive Director of the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO). He is also a standing board member of the Geographical Society of China, a member of the Economic and Social Council of China, and the secretary-general of the Academic Forum on High-Quality Development of the Belt and Road Initiative. He has long been engaged in research on economic globalization, Belt and Road, and regional development. He was a winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and awarded the Honorary Title of National Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions.
