Presenter: Dr. Liang WU
Topic: ‘Soil and Water Conservation and Ecosystem Management in the Sahel Region’
Date: January 18, 2017
Time: 12 noon- 2 p.m
Seminar presentation details: A project entitled “Driving Mechanisms of Land Use and Cover Change in the Sahel: Impacts and Responses” has been granted by Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) under the NSFC-UNEP programme. The project will be led by the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, with UNEP-IEMP being a key partner. It aims to study the response of Land Use and Land Cover Change (LUCC) to climatic and anthropic forcing in the Sahel region as well as the impact of LUCC on water balance. The project duration is five years (2017-2021).
The sub-project to be conducted by UNEP-IEMP is dedicated to exploring soil and water conservation and ecosystem management in the Sahel region, and provide scientific support for informed decision-making on water and soil conservation and ecosystem management, within the framework of the Great Green Wall Initiative (GGWI), so as to improve the capacity of adaptation to climate change in the Sahel region.
The presentation by Dr Liang Wu will introduce the project layout and its proposed action plan. It will also focus on the sub-project aims, activities involved and also explore synergies with UNEP-IEMP’s decade-long Flagship Programme on Climate, Ecosystems and Livelihoods.
Venue: Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences
The event is open to all.
