Seminar presentation details: Focusing on the current situation in the Maasai Mara Ecosystemthe presentation will provide details on human-wildlife conflicts, local communities and tourism within the park.
UNEP-IEMP is working on a study entitled “Coupling wildlife conservation and sustainable livelihood- a probe into human-wildlife conflicts in the Mara Region, Kenya”. This is one of the component of Centre’s UNEP-NSFC joint project on “Ecosystem services assessment and sustainable management in East Africa protected areas” working with Kenya Wildlife Services.

About the Maasai Mara Ecosystem: It is situated in South Kenya and is one of the world’s most important habitat areas for a variety of wild African animals. This makes the ecosystem one of the major tourist attractions. Owing to severe human-wildlife issues, Maasai Mara is termed as a “conflict hot spot”.
