June 10, 2022, UNEP-IEMP joined the Annual Strategic and Monitoring Meeting of EU-China Biodiversity Facility (CBF) hosted by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). The meeting introduced the progress made in the Year 2 and the work plan for the Year 3 of CBF. It also facilitated exchange with engaged ministries and international donors with the aim to find more synergy on cooperation with China in biodiversity conservation for the upcoming years.

In the session of policy dialogue on biodiversity financing and mainstreaming, Dr. HE Jialin on behalf of UNEP-IEMP made an intervention highlighting that integrating biodiversity and its multiples values into policies at all levels of government and across all sectors of the economy is vital to ensure that activities and financial flows are aligned with the overall goals. UNEP-IEMP’s cooperation with The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) in China is mentioned as an example of mainstreaming biodiversity into policy making at local, national and international levels.

Through the meeting, it is found that the CBF and UNEP-IEMP both have EU-funded pilot project in Tengchong, Yunnan Province. Both sides think that it is worth finding synergies and exploring joint efforts in the future.
