UNEP-IEMP delegation visited Nanjing Forestry University to promote cooperation on bamboo

On March 25, UNEP-IEMP team led by the Director Ms. Zhang Linxiu visited Nanjing Forestry University (NFU) to promote South-South cooperation in the field of bamboo cultivation, processing and utilization.

Based on the 2-year cooperation between UNEP-IEMP and NFU, this visit focused on strengthening cooperation on bamboo utilization as a nature-based solution. Prof. Yin Tongming, NFU Vice Presidentwelcomed the delegation and introduced the recent development of Nanjing Forestry University, especially on the key achievements and industrialization of bamboo cultivation and processing. He expressed strong interest to work with the United Nations Environment Programme to promote international cooperation in the fields of bamboo cultivation and processing. Through this exchangethe delegation also learned about the newly established Bamboo Industry Research Academy within NFU, with highlight on its interdisciplinary feature and integration of bamboo related primary, secondary and tertiary industries, and its objectives of serving for "replacing plastic with bamboo", " carbon peak and carbon neutrality", and rural revitalization.

This exchange further promoted the cooperation between UNEP-IEMP and NFU in the field of bamboo, especially for bridging cooperation with Kenya and Thailand.
