UNEP-IEMP facilitated China-Thailand cooperation in bamboo utilization

On April 3, 2024, UNEP-IEMP delegation, led by the Director Prof. Zhang Linxiu, joined the meeting with the Royal Thai Embassy, Thailand National Metal and Materials Technology Center, and Nanjing Forestry University to promote South-South cooperation in bamboo processing and utilization between Thailand and China. This meeting is a step towards the transfer of know-how and technology from China to Thailand, which is co-initiated by UNEP-IEMP and the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing.

The meeting connected with MTEC participants virtually  

The meeting was stemmed from the request from the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), which is part of the National Science and Technology Development Agency of Thailand (NSTDA), to support the cooperation with China on bamboo as a sustainable material. It provided an opportunity for both sides to learn and exchange on the development and status of bamboo utilization. Areas of cooperation were also discussed. Prof. Zhang Linxiu, in her remarks, expressed that as a global center, UNEP-IEMP provides platform for cooperation and in this case we wish that the expertise and knowledge transfer will support sustainable development in Thailand.
