Policy brief launched from Chinese-German Cooperation Workshop on climate and biodiversity

  • 03 June 2024  |  News

The policy brief titled "Strengthening the science-policy interface for climate and biodiversity" has been released. It presents the results of the “Chinese-German Cooperation Virtual Workshop on Ecosystem-based Approaches for Climate and Biodiversity”, organized in 2022 by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) and UNEP-IEMP. Young researchers from China and Germany, as well as partners from other Asian, European and African countries, were the main targeted group of participants of that workshop.

It synthesizes a number of specific suggestions made during the workshop, as well as general recommendations highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary and landscape-wide research with regard to climate and biodiversity and the need to consciously manage the time gap between receiving research results and introducing policies. A strong evidence base along with a well-functioning science-policy interface is required to halt further negative impacts from climate change and biodiversity loss. As future leading scientists and decision-makers, young researchers worldwide play a key role in this regard.
