As part of the National Natural Science Foundation International (Regional) Cooperation and Exchange (NSFC-UNEP) Project "Land-Sea Migration Patterns of Plastic Waste in the Lancang-Mekong River Basin and Strategies for Pollution Reduction and Carbon Emission Reduction", Dr. Xu Xiangbo, UNEP-IEMP Associate Research Fellow, and other project team members from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Nanchang University conducted field research and academic visits in Vietnam from 21 to 26 August 2026.

The team visited Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and Hanoi. Activities included discussions with institutions such as the Vietnam-China Economic Cooperation & Exchange Center, the Mekong Institute at Can Tho University, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, as well as the "Specialized Seminar: Facilitating Scientific Collaboration on Plastic Waste Management in Mekong River Basin". The project team also exchanged insights with the Vietnam Environmental Industry Association and relevant universities at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

This visit completed the field research tasks within the project research plan, yielded rich interim results, deepened the partnership between the Center and theVietnamese partner institutions, and further accumulated experience in international collaborative research.
