Balancing agricultural income and environmental impact by adjusting the structure and scale of circular agriculture is becoming increasingly important. This paper built a multi-objective linear programming model based on greenhouse gas emission and agricultural product income and then optimized the structure and scale of circular agriculture using Beiqiu Farm as a case study. The optimization made full use of straw, manure and fodder, but also minimized soil nitrogen loss.

Nitrogen and salinity limit crop yield and net economic benefit in coastal saline-alkali soils. Binary quadric surface equations can be used to optimize wheat-corn cropping under saline and nitrogen conditions. Nitrogen addition based on environmental and farmers’ benefits was reduced by 40.4% and 33.9% comparing to traditional dose. Area-specific nitrogen application strategy is needed in coastal saline soils in China.

Farmland plastic pollution is increasing with the use of agricultural mulch film. An empirical study focused on smallholder farmers with national representative samples. National representative micro-level data was used to explore the effect of village regulations. Village regulations have significant direct and indirect positive effects on mulch film recycling.

Discarding waste pesticide bottles are causing environmental problems in rural China. 48.80% of households disposed of waste pesticide bottles in situ in rural China. The measures from government and market had positive effect on proper disposal. Soft constraints did not show significant effect. Synergies between the different policies have not yet been achieved.

Half of farmers think that the agricultural mulch film can pollute farmland. The attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and household characteristics affect cognition.
